Our Job is Bringing the Forest Home
Life leads you where you need to go
In 1995 on a Red Sea beach I met a guy from Finland, Risto X, who asked me: "why don’t you have wooden houses in the Middle East?". I became curious, and after a month I found myself in a Finnish forest with a chainsaw in my hand cutting logs and enjoying a good "Makkara" (finnish sausage) barbecuing on a traditional Finnish fire torch.

The Way of the Wood
Northern European forestry comes from a long tradition.
Reserved Forest treated with a lot of Love and long tradition generations. The tree planted today - will feed the grandchildren in the future.
Harvesting (with care)
Harvesting has its rules and there are specific time intervals for harvesting during the Year.
Summer:
Harvesting prohibited in August as for forest fire (ignition) concerns.
Main harvesting time falls on the winter months, when ground is frozen.
Unstable lumber prices are explained by…..
For example: harvesting of Winter 2020 can be started only 2021, not end of October 2020.

Machining: What changed in timber industry within the last 30 years
Blade thickness and speed of cutting machines
1922-1929
Until 20 Years ago the log went (was taken into production) as is.
How turning log around to optimize the cutting.
Blades
In 1980 the blade was 5mm thick and tolerance about 10%, which is a lot in comparison to 1.5 -2.0 mm blades we have today. This upgrade helps to keep tolerance controlled up to 1% only.
Cutting and Grading: How Low-Tech became High-Tech
· X-Ray for every log and number registration
· Camera Grading according to diameter
· Considering the X-Ray parameters received - will be decided the right grade and what will be the end product.
· (Innovated-ive ?) Drying chambers- kilns /technology
Camera grading
A special camera recognizes (potential defects) knots and cracks and even blue stain with about 1% misgrading.
First grading camera was installed in 1995 in ****** sawmill (saw mill name (?)) and the error (tolerance) was about 30%…
Drying
Up today are used 2 kinds of drying technology: Increasive and Kiln Drying. (????)
